We have two stone fireplaces in our home and we want them both changed. Can you cover the stone with a new facade or does it have to be ripped off? Please, help!

The stone can be "parged" and a new stone or tile can be overlaid. Most tilesetters or masons will be able to do this for you. Parging is troweling on a smooth coat of mortar, similar to the scratch and brown coat of stucco. If you are thinking of using a natural stone product as a veneer, your mason may need to remove the original stone, depending on the thickness of the new stone.. Let it be the mason's call...they need to stand behind their work and compromise may put them in a bind later.
