Need help with small upstairs bathroom
March 24, 2013 in Design Dilemma
small narrow upstairs bathroom. Considering a tub/shower combo. Have a shower only now. Can go across the end of room but will lose linen cabinet. Debating on leaving existing shower taking down 1 wall to open up, large walk in shower, or tub/combo. I have tub in master bath. I think a shower looks nicer but maybe resale in the future would it hurt.

Is your home what they'd call a "family home"? In other words, would the most likely people to buy it in the future be people with kids? In that case, they'd likely want a tub in the main bathroom. It's ok to just have one tub in the house, with a shower in another bathroom, but I think the ideal is to have the tub in the family bathroom and the shower in the master ensuite. At the end of the day, though, you need to please yourself if you're going to be living there indefinitely. After ten or fifteen years the bathroom will likely need renovating anyway--how long do you intend to stay?
