Hi we are building our house and trying to figure out what the height of our cabinets should be with 9 ft ceilings? I usually like the molding to hit the ceiling.

Here are a couple of photos of kitchens with tall ceilings and a row of cabinets (some with glass insets) at the top. I like this solution:

Agree! Nothing IMO looks tackier than a big space between standard-size cabinets & the ceiling. Two rows of custom-sized cabinets are another option.

Plate, shelve for serving pieces, and/ or wine-glass racks below standard cabinets would also look nice if you're willing to go with exposed dishes (not me, too much bacon frying in my kitchen!).

One thing I would not do is waste that valuable extra space with a fur down (bulkhead).

I agree - best way to keep it looking fab is to have wall cabinets with glass with interior lighting at top for display (without dust!) looks beautiful and gives off enough secondary light in the evening to make a snack without having to out the main lights on !!!

Thanks for the photos. I'm regretting the extra foot... For the extra cost and the awkward cabinet issue.

Is it too late to change it ?!
Have you considered a raised kitchen ?! ie build it all on a two step or even three step platform ! Can look great in the right room ?!!? ( can even make a mini wine cellar in the void )

Don't regret the 9' ceiling! With an extra foot you have room for a beamed ceiling treatment. You can't take the cabinets all the way up with beams.
