Dark or Light Trim?

This is a pic of the house we just bought, so none of the decor is mine. I know for sure I want to keep the ceiling and sheetrock over the tv/closet space. I'll be ripping out the green carpet, but I'm undecided about what to put down in it's place. Can someone help me with trim suggestions? I can't decide if white trim will brighten up the place, or look odd with the wood ceiling. Thanks!

I personally like the wood look although I know that white trim is very popular now. While researching kitchens, I noticed a lot of dark cabinets in rooms with white trim so I think either one would be ok. The white trim would brighten it up a bit.

If you search houzz for wood ceili white trim you will see examples of that combo to see if you like it. Here's just one example

I would turn the closet into a bar unit and put the TV somewhere else. Lets wait until we see your furniture. I would put down wood floors to start and paint a deeper color so you won't have to paint the trim.

Absolutely white trim. It actually makes the wood ceiling look better. Good picture Sam

Will white trim work with the brown shades? The exterior of the house is traditional tudor, so white shades just won't look right.

White will not look odd with the wood. It is a personal choice consideration.

I guess I'm just having a hard time visualizing it in this room.

Notice in the "Crosby Residence" above how the designer added a lot of white trim everywhere. The windows are wood but the outer trim is white. So the wood and white are being woven together around this room. And then the paint is a subtle soft warm gray, perhaps. Then the designer has woven the color palette around the room, which in this case brown, gray and white, the wood ceiling, etc, being an extension of the brown incorporated throughout.

Amanda, if I remember it right, you don't really have a lot of trim at the windows except for the sill and a header piece. I remember your last query about the wall and casework elements. I think it would be fine to paint out all that except the mantle and paint out the baseboard and keep your natural toned wood at the windows.

I'm having a hard time imagining that. Unfortunately, I'm a very visual person - not creative at all. Guess that's why I'm here. ;)
