Need to replace and reframe windows on brick knee wall
March 31, 2013 in Design Dilemma
I have a 2ft high. 8" thick knee wall on concrete slab in my sunroom. The current windows are really thin and room is either extremely cold or hot. I would like to reframe and insulate around new windows but am trying to figure out how to attach sill plate to brick or should I demo the entire wall and reframe from concrete slab to roof!!' Any help or advice is welcome!!!!

Hi, I would probably build a new insulated wall inside the brick wall, and flash over the top of the brick so moisture doesn't get in. New insulated vinyl windows can go in the new wall.

Thanks Karen, but if I did it that way( did you mean framing from inside the room off the concrete floor up to knee wall height?) wouldn't it have a greater chance of moisture getting in if the brick wall is cap and framing on the other side of it, or am I misunderstanding you? Thanks again.

I was suggesting running the framing all the way up to the ceiling
