We took our small, somewhat dark lake cottage and brightened it up with a minimal investment.

Replacing the forest green carpet with the hardwood floors was a stroke of genius.

Much better. Michegammemom is right, the floors make all the difference. And I love that light above the sink area.

Love the windows. Window treatments that don't block the view such as side panels or valances would look nice.

We need something that will close while we're away.

Pleated shades are nice and light but can be very costly for so many windows. Panels with grommets would be pretty, easy to open and close. I see them all over the place ready made.

I agree with Brit, grommet curtains would soften the edges of the room add warmth or deflect heat, provide privacy. Try an energizing color.

Great looking renovation memlex. Looks lovely and bright and airy. Perfect for a relaxing holiday home. Congrats. But "small" ? ... It looks very spacious in the pics.

@losthorizonlisa .. funny, that's the first thing I saw too. Maybe because I've had to change my fridge doors more than once, so am looking for the problem. :-)

Big improvement! You asked if there was anything else you could do. I would buy a new couch and loveseat in a more neutral color. The green plaid is very dated and detracts from the bight new space. i would also replace the shag rug once you pick the new furniture. I don't like the shape, style or color. A rectangular rug in a pattern would look great with your new floors.
