prigsbyApril 7, 2013
extra (11X12) bedroom turned into office; it has come to look like a scene from Hoarders. I need ideas for storing & organization ALL the stuff I want & need to keep.

It will help if you make a list of what kinds of items you want to store in the room. Do you have a lot of file folders? Books? CDs? Do you have a place to store reams of paper for the printer? Do you need to put all the things for mailing together (envelopes, stamps, address labels, stapler, perhaps tape, white-out)? Do you keep things in boxes or three-ring binders?

Once you get a handle on what you need to store and how much there is of that particular thing, you can begin to plan storage. Regular file cabinets or lateral file cabinets? A bookcase? A set of drawers for desk supplies? A set of boxes for CDs and thumbnail storage? Do you need a pin board/bulletin board? What about a magnetic white board?

Houzz has some excellent Ideabooks on decluttering. Go to Houzz Ideabooks and enter Hmm "closet organization" should get you started on the right track.

A site I like is (Marla Cilley) She helps you break down enormous tasks into fifteen minute increments.

Best wishes.

As eztia mentioned, it depends on what you want to store, but I'll start by showing you what I did.

The shelving and boxes are from Ikea.

BTW: I did this a little over a year ago, and I still haven't filled all the boxes.
Box assignments include
-To be filed
-Personal effects
-School stuff
-Miscellaneous junk I need/want to keep but don't want to take up drawer space
-Storage for perfume boxes (I collect fragrances)

I have 2 rolling drawer/file units under my table adjacent to the bookshelves. "Desk" is made up of two 69'' MELLTORP tables from Ikea. They run the length of the room.
