Exterior design dilemma

We will be putting new windows in as well as siding, but would like to add a porch to the older two-story section and a change-up of window sizes to the large 20 x 24 family room that was added in the mid 70's. Any ideas on window placement and sizes as well as porch designs would be greatly appreciated.

A shed roof above the door, higher than the roof of the addition, resting on somewhat more substantial columns. A gable end roof coming out of the new shed roof centered on the door to provide a focal point. Wrap the new porch around to the right for an even more farmhouse look? More in a second post.

Leave the second floor windows on the older section alone..replace only so that there is room for the new porch roof. Leave the third floor/attic window as is...replace only. On the first floor, leave the top of window as is, but make it taller, similar to the windows on the family room. Around the corner to the right...don't know what room this is...add a set of French doors to access this side of the new porch.

I would replace the windows to the new family room with tall, wide, side by side double hungs and get grilles on the top half only. More authentic to the original period of the house.

I'd remove the shutters. See if you're up to lifting the roof a little (towards the gutter, less angled), so the porch can blend in with the left side of the house.
