Matching tables in family room?
April 10, 2013 in Design Dilemma
i have a question regarding matching the tables, coffee, end tables and sofa table with the entertainment center in our room. we love our new walnut stained, pecan entertainment center, but are wondering whether or not we have to stay with the same line of furniture to add the tables. they do make them to match, but we don't care for them at all! we are decorating from stratch. thanks for some input.

I actually much prefer furniture that complements, but isn't part of a matched set. In your case, since you don't even like the matching ones, I wouldn't think twice. Shop for furniture you love that you think will complement your new entertainment center and the rest of the furniture in the room, but not match it.

i tend to agree about the matchy matchy thing. i feel that it is a more modern approach to blend furniture rather than get everything from the same "line". less of what our mothers would have done in the 50's. like a feeling that stuff was acculumated rather then all picked out the same day in a huge furniture store. but that being said, it's a lot easier that way to do it all at once!

Finding tables that accent will also make your space look "collected" rather than purchased and it will feel more welcoming to anyone who enters. While model homes are beautiful, they don't always feel comfortable.
