Need help for outdoor patio with East to West sun exposure
housedesignideasApril 11, 2013
Would love a covered porch but don't want it DARK!! Also, how to block sun from East & West exposure, noting we have strong winds occasionally. Shutters? Outdoor blinds/curtains would not do well in wind. Any other comments/suggestions are welcomed!! Thanks! ( pic 1: South; pic 2: East; pic 3: West; pic 4: South again!)

A combination of a pergola and shutters that are naturally vented but can be locked down in windy conditions would work for you. I like the pivoting ones.

Cant argue with pergola. Perfect solution and would add design to it. I was thinking the awnings that can open and close at the push of a button but I think pergola is perfect.

I agree with decoenthusiaste. A pergola may be the way to go. There are a bunch of different styles and designs you can go with. They even have some that open and close automatically.

This was an old post from 2013. Wonder if they built a pergola?
