Looking for ideas "5 over 4, red front door" transformation

Hi there - we have a very traditional 5 over 4 house built in the mid 80's - I am looking for ideas/webpages/etc on how to change the look of this house. It has no dimension, interesting architecture - blah! We're going to paint - but we think we want to try and do more. Any ideas? What can I do with this to change it up???

Here's an interesting change on a 5 over 4. Your only limitation might be the center window upstairs that would need to reduce in size to accommodate the porch roof.

we THOUGHT about a portico kind of thing - THANKS! this is helpful. I have no problem changing out that one window - maybe even making it round?!

Round may or may not go with other trim you do. Check more of your style house here and see if that is typical. I'm thinking round is more of another style and era.

HAHA ! It just makes me want to MOVE INTO THAT HOUSE!!! :) i wish we could do a big covered area like that, and stone on the front of the house would be epic - but budget not there for that. I love that house though!

I think it's nice the way it is, but you could try adding a bay window, if you don't think the portico does enough.

A round window would look odd. You have a classic style. Your changes should stick with that style, otherwise they might look funny.

Notice the authentic shutters.
Colonial Revival

But this is my favorite look for a Colonial house with the 5/4…no shutters at all and making the entry the focal point.

you could possibly do something at the front door similar to the "Front garden" pic or as decoenthusiaste
suggested
Also, when I posted the pic it was for inspiration only. i didn't expect that you would do the whole facade. Cherry pick an idea :).as the front door!!

maybe an arbor over the front door with roses? something to soften the front of the house? I like the sidewalk that curves! maybe some more trees on the front lawn?
