One of the latest Houzz tours shows updated kitchen layout that used to be like mine . I was planning to redo my kitchen cabinets but not sure should I keep the walls and cosy nook that i was going to paint and reupholster or should i open the wall to LR/DR and add island looks this one in Houzz tour? Pros and cons? Thank you.Fist pic is Houzz tour, second and third shows my nook and entrance to kitchen.

Hi Sondra, I vote that you keep your cozy nook. Re-upholster the banquet and chairs and you're all set!

I think that the island in the houzz tour overwhelms the kitchen. Notice how the chairs are quite close to the back wall and patio door. According to the NKBA guidelines, there should be a minimum 36" of clearance from the edge of the island to the wall.

One plan, sorry again. Not that wall. If you look at the above pic with yellow walls that is similar to mine and i was gonna remove that wall towards living room. Here is my quick sketch(i am work lunch break) .

Hi Sondra, your original post said you planned on redoing your cabinets. What will they be--painted, or stained? Once you decide, it will be easier to make suggestions. One thing for certain, choose a fabric that is cheerier--it's a great way to bring color into your kitchen.

Hubby does not feel like doing cabinets yet : -( but he would not mind working on nook. For cabinets I would paint them.
