Wall texture - hand troweling or knock-down?

Our new home builder offers standard knock-down texture for the walls, or an upgrade to hand-troweled texturing. The cost of troweling is significant. No other finishes are offered, so although we love smooth walls, they don't offer that option. For a fairly high-priced home, is the wall texture something anyone notices? Would the cost of hand-troweling be worth it? Could smooth or hand-troweled texture be added later? How much of a hassle would that be? Thanks for your thoughts, advice, etc....

I have knockdown. I like trowl better but knockdown is just as good and, for me, it ha been durable. Easier to chip than trowel and then u have to buy a spray and reprint the area. If you want smooth, just tell the contractor to leave it unfinished and hire someone to do it. U got live with it.
