To paint or not to paint?

What is the opinion on painting only part of our wood-stained trim throughout the house? I'm trying to update my 20 year old traditional style house and feeling the wood stain is dragging me down. Not sure I want to paint all of the trim.

Friends of ours had the same issue and they chose to paint all the trim - but did it a room or two a time. It looks much fresher.

I go into home where homeowner is trying to strip off the paint someone else put on. As a designer (may want to seek professional help) I am able to make the wood trim work through colors and very important to how you feel is the lighting! Cheers
