Can I use a carpet remnant for an area rug

I am trying to find a budget friendly area rug. If I find a carpet remnant and had it finished, would it look nice enough?

Yes! You can have the edges bound at a carpet store. I think when I asked about it, it was around $75 to bind the 9x12 I was thinking of having them cut for me.

Yes, depending on the quality of the carpet it could look very nice. You should consider a pad underneath such a rug as carpeting usually is installed over padding. The advantage of using a remnant is that you can have it bound in the exact size that you want. I've used binding to match the carpet, but I have also seen it done with a contrasting color or shade.
