Need help with living room furniture & arrangement ideas.

We have just purchased an antique home - circa 1810! Our current living room sofas are contemporary tan leather and we don't think the style would fit in. We have leather because our 70-pound Golden Retriever thinks he is a lap dog (I know - our fault, but we like snuggling with him on the sofa too!). Any ideas regarding dog-friendly sofas and how to arrange the L-shaped living area? Attached are three shots of the living room. Any help would be greatly appreciate :-)

There's no reason why contemporary furnishings should be banished because of older home. MCM works well in my 1900's rowhouse.

P.S. the pictures are from the realtor's web site, so all the furniture you see belongs to the seller.

Your leather sofas could work if you throw a bunch of pillows on them that will suit the rest of your décor. Glad to hear not all that stuff is yours! Remember, the Shakers had quite simple rooms - the original minimalist approach :-)

Can you post a picture of you current sofas? I must admit to liking the previous owners furniture - particularly the rugs. I hope you have some nice ones. I hope you don't want to emulate shaker furnishings. For one thing, the Shakers weren't too interested in comfort in this world and your dog would miss the snuggling!

Even if you've completed the redesign project, consider an Old English Fireplace Bench for the hearth. The period home is perfect for this. I've used Micro-fiber fabric on a sectional before, because my dogs are all over it. It works beautifully. You can wipe messes up with a sponge! brush it back into shape. Get a color that matches your dog! Plus, it's soft ( like suede).
