Hanging lighting over a kitchen table
May 1, 2013 in Design Dilemma
My husband and I are having a difference of opinions. I think a hanging ceiling light should be centered over the table. My husband wants it centered in the room. It's a small space and it has restrictions because it is a drop ceiling in a small space with an exterior door opening into the same space. It bugs me very much to see a light (intended for dining) is not centered over the table. In the past, there was some square ugly box lighting that we changed. In order to change it, we had to do repairs to the ceiling before hanging another light, we also needed to use a medallion to cover part of the hole left. So, now we have a light we really like and I would like to see it swagged to hang over the center of the table, not the center of the room. What do you think?

you are correct ... center it over the table.

I'd say centered above the table.

My rule of thumb is if it is a fixture that hugs the ceiling it can go in the center of the room. If it is pendant lighting hang or swag to the middle of the table.

Thank you very much. Carolins, the link you provided was great. I showed it to my husband, who is right now working on moving the light. He is so awesome!
