one large kitchen sink versus two side by side sinks

I just wanted to hear people's opinions on kitchen sinks. I have always had two side by sides but wondered what the pros and cons are of two versus one big one.

My perference is a large sink bowl (24") with an attached drainboard (18" -- usually positioned over the DW). I currenly have an Elkay surface mount in this configuration and LOVE it (installed 17 years ago). Finding an undermount with the same configuration for my kitchen renovation is proving to be more challenging ... I'm seriously considering re-installing my 17 year old sink, that's how much I love it.

One large- you can fit larger pots for cleaning much easier. I like the look better too!

This question comes up fairly often, and you will probably get equal votes for both. My preference is a single sink, that's my vote. I had a double and changed it as quickly as I could.

My preference is a "sink and a half"... large bowl, with a smaller one for prep/garbage disposal.

I think its helpful to have 2. One for the garbage disposal, etc, and one where you can put dirty dishes as you work. I think 2 are also better for washing dishes, so you can wash in one and rinse over the other. Especially if you cook daily, which I do.

I have a sink and a half which I am glad especially since I do not have a dishwasher and use it for drying dishes.

I have been wondering about this as I see all the large sinks. I have only ever had two and am going to watch to see the specific reasons why one is preferred over the other.

Brenda do you have a picture of what you are talking about? Thanks.

Have to weight in here because I just went through the same process as you. I had a double but decided on a single 32" for my new kitchen. No regrets. I can now wash all those big cumbersome things like stove grates, big vases etc.. Very happy to have one very useful sink as opposed to 2 quasi useful ones.

Single sink. It's also big enough to bathe a baby/toddler for when you remove your bathtub and replace it with an awesome shower :)
