whoa. I will trade with you!!! it looks lovely! I have horrible old tile that is original and awful :) I do understand how you feel though and perhaps updating to a lighter color would be nice for your room. I don't know of any way to do it without taking out the old tile. You might find another use for it, maybe outdoors?

I think it is the shine on the marble that is making it feel dated to you. Wonder if it would be possible to have it "honed" in place ...

Try spray painting the brass on your screen black with a heat resistant paint. Itching it will update it. I love the marble as it is

The marble looks great and spraying the brass black as suggested by laurie will take care of that problem. You could probably tile right over the existing tile with another tile if you're determined to change it, or remove the old and start over.

Looks great! Did you have to remove all of the marble or go over top?

We did remove the marble but as suggested we spray painted the brass on the fireplace black. Our flooring guy did all of it when he put in our new floors.
