Do you sand and coat underneath your island top?

ahnjeanMay 7, 2013
I have a Quartz top for my island and it is on the large wood plank. Although it doesn't show the wood underneath, I am worried that the wood will cause splinter if I touch it. Is it wise to sand and coat?
