NYC Apt- paint colors
LBC NYC

I am torn because I know white walls would help make my apt look bigger but I would like to do at least a hint of color like a gray or blue. Do you think a light color would make it look smaller? It has a lot of light, western exposure so not direct.

it depends but most midtone or light colors won't always make rooms look small look at pewter cast from sherwin or wythe blue from benjamin

Don't you get enough grey outside your apt? Might you consider anything else...anything?

I think a soft gray would be great. It wont make it looks small, because you have such a big space, with lots of light, and it will complement your floors. Blues can make a room feel a bit "cold'. Plus gray will still work with your sofa colours etc

I would go with one big splash of colour like red & use it just on one wall & then bring the red in with either a lamp or a large dish or a vase sat on a table or if you have a counter top that you can sit at with like bar stools - get these in red! Go for a change & think out of the 'box' & be bold. It would look stunning by just using one or two items with one red wall.

Yup, I agree with the advice you've gotten. There is one way to add some oomph. Paint the walls a light Grey or just White. Use a Blue tone on the ceiling. This will actually reflect light and raise the ceiling. Select one wall or one feature (a column, partition, or nook) and apply a stonger color here. Then use that sme accent color here and there in the space on small pieces.

I like the white walls but if you want a grey, there are two great choices--go dark on a feature wall with stonington grey from Benjamin Moore and do the other walls in a light grey. Marilyn's Dress is a cool grey and we also love Ice cube Silver.
