How close do you plant impatiens to make it mound?

Unfortunately we no longer plant impatiens due to the Downy Mildew disease decimating the these wonderful annuals. However if you choose to take the chance we plant 3" cells of a flat approximately 5"-6" apart for a full, mounding appearance.

Does the new guinea impatiens have the disease too? If not, do they mound like the impatiens?

New Guinea Impatiens are resistant to the mildew. The Divine series has a little mounding habit but not quite like the impatiens. It is a good alternative however though may be hard to find at a garden center.
