It seems like greys are the popular neutral now as opposed to tans, beige.

sam, grey does appear to be "in" right now. But you have to decide whether you want to be trendy or be true to what you actually like. Some years, you will be more "in" than others, like me and my green.

By the way, if you go to Lowe's, they have little cards stuck in their paint chips that say what the trendy colors currently are.

Handy - I agree do what you like. But I don't think that grey is "trendy" - it seems to be more popular right now but it's just a neutral that's a nice alternative to tan or beige if those are not your thing.

Trendy and popular are the same thing to me sam, :) But yes, grey is a neutral. The fact that it is being used so much all of a sudden is what makes it a trend: to me.
