need corner fireplace like this but would like to use gas logs but open hearth

If you want an "open hearth" like shown above, the most logical thing to do is to build a woodburning fireplace and add gas logs. There is a little bit of a trick to supporting the weight from above without a corner post, but there are ways to do it. If the project is for an existing house, there are also ways to create a lightweight masonry fireplace that will not require any additional foundation.

If you think you might be able to stand some glass, Ortal makes some direct-vent corner fireplaces that use proprietary technology to join the glass in the corner:
