Planning to paint entire house we just bought and will do white trim throughout. What to do with the paneling above fireplace? Paint it all white? White on some parts and wall color on others?

Paint trim around all windows and other trim white. But I like the wood on firepl. Very pretty. After you paint. Add window covers etc. then see if you still want to paint it.

Don't cover upper windows. Just simple panels on each end of windows. No rug in front of FP. Add 3 big pillows in accent colors to hearth. Stack on one end. Add a basket of firewood to ther end. Find colorful very tall candlesticks to put on each end of mantel. A long narrow painting with lots of color in center.

It looks like you have wood molding throughout the rest of the room. It's all a bit too much wood color, so I would paint all of the trim in the room white, paint the walls a nice color that you like, and then leave the wood only on the fireplace and above. Fill the space above the fireplace with either a set of three mirrors or one huge mirror (portrait style) that maximizes the ceiling height and draws the eyes up. I would definitely replace the brass fixtures (ceiling fan and fireplace surround) with something more updated.

Don't add anything else to mantel. Let the wood speak for its self.

Yes, planning to replace the brass fireplace/ceiling fan. Also replacing carpet with hardwoods. Please share any other suggestions for paint colors - want a neutral color that isn't too blah. Also would love suggestions on the light fixture - maybe a casual chandelier vs a fan?

Can you take some additional pictures of the rest of the room to give us some more context?

These are from appraisal. Haven't closed yet...we have a very casual style and three children so furnishings won't be too fancy.
