Stuck in kitchen tile decision
May 24, 2013 in Design Dilemma
We're completely remodeling our 1950s split level kitchen. We made it through picking cabinets, contractor, kitchen layout, picking appliances, picking granite countertop, but we got stuck on floor tile. Porcelain (printed vs. not printed - we want the color through the body), rectified vs. non-rectified, 12 x 24 staggered vs. 12 x 12, etc. I've read a lot aobut using rectified tiles, especially 12 x 24, and it sounds very problematic and prone to issues (lippage, breakage). Suggestion I saw was to do them staggered 1/3, rather than like brick, and at least 1/8 inch grout line. Do we really need recitfied, large tile in our small (120 sq. foot kitchen) to make it look great?
