What features are you looking for? How do you want to use this space?

What potential and what great ideas you have! Great thing about creating an outdoor living space is it can be as simple or as extravegant as you'd like. We've done quite a few outdoor kitchens and outdoor fireplaces. It's amazing the options and variety of features you can have. Strive for functional design. The products (quality of products) will give it the Wow! factor, but most important you want something you and your family can use efficiently. Consider the base of it...concrete, stamped concrete, pavers...etc. Whether you want it covered or not (Having a covered patio allows for useage year-round). By building "spaces" (ex: eating/dining area, perhaps an area for fireplace, area for firepit, etc.) magnifies your space and function. Get some ideas then contacting a local professional in your area can help you narrow down the specifics. It can be overwhelming...but have fun! Can't wait to see the "afters".

Agree with Dytecture. Solid surfaces, and/or roof structures create impermiable surfaces, which most municipalities will count toward allowable lot coverages. May require drainage abatement and other considerations, expecially if your property is located in an area of high seismic or high wind loads. Even if this is to be located on acreage, these issues, along with orientation of the structure are all factors that should be considered as part of your design program in working with a professional.
