I would select one with a 40" diameter, give or take a few inches.

I have great respect for studio 10001's opinion and realize that some of our readers are wondering how there can be such a difference in two different answers. I like to have chandeliers that are about two-thirds the width of the table and studio likes hers smaller. You'll find plenty of all sizes if you look at round dining table pictures on houzz. I pulled a couple of tables with big chandeliers to show you what they look like.

Oh, no, Carolyn, I love them large! I thought it was just my personal 'more is more' penchant. In addition, I should have qualified the comment as a general standard, not an omen; apologies, mcage. Your ceiling height will have some say in all this, as well, as you can see.

I am so happy to have found this thread. I too have a 60" round table and a room that is 13' x 16'. I want a 40" round chandelier but was afraid that would be too big. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

Also please note that the chandeliers in the photos I showed are airy ones. So you will need to take into consideration not only the width and height, but also the visual weight of a chandelier which can make it appear bigger, thereby affecting the size you can use.
