Have traditional wooden stairs that I would like to make more modern.

Would like timber and wire balustrade. When carpet taken off it is partical board underneath. Can I put timber on top of the board.

You either have to pull the particle board sub-treads (most likely) or depending how the stair was laid out you can put wood solid treads on top, but it will change the rise of the stairway and might not be able to keep it to code, and on the 1st stair will feel funny...

This is fun artistic contemporary/modern wood one we just did - might give you some ideas. If your in the northwest would be happy to help.
