Enhance curb appeal of 80's built cape cod style house.
June 6, 2013 in Design Dilemma
We need to repaint but would like to keep body color the same color, Hardie khaki brown. Before we repaint, we would like to update exterior, and we are open to getting rid of the front porch rail and changing the porch posts as well. We welcome ideas to enhance curb appeal and also any ideas to reduce the impact of the overwhelming three stall garage, unfortunately built in a straight line, without any variation. If giving landscaping advice, please consider we live in zone 3-4. Attached are winter and spring photos.

That's a great house. I'd love to see a brighter white trim and black shutters.

Can you plant in front of the area to the right of the third stall of the garage? You may be able to use carriage doors to get a different look with those as well.

You have a charming home…perhaps an arbor over the garage portion would help. Curious why you are thinking of removing the railing and posts?

a soft vanilla trim would be lovely as well.

Thank you. Last fall I painted the door and shutters a dark brown (almost black) and loved the results. I am going to try an arbor over the garage to break up the line a bit and temper the fact that the front looks like a small house attached to a large garage.
