Need help with small living room.
June 14, 2013 in Before & After
I would appreciate ideas for furniture placement. I am also interested in replacing the two sofas - need suggestions for style and color.

To much large furniture for small room. Love seat has to go, make the living room cozy put back of sofa facing dining area with sofa table with book shelves can be used as buffet table when entertaining. Glass coffee table would be nice as glass does not take any visual space. A round table between the chairs would soften the look, and add some nice casual drapes that can be pulled back in the day time. Some color on the sofa is needed, nice pillows would do the trick pick up the color of the drapes. Good Luck

MKShaw, could you take a shot from the front door looking in please?

Have you considered an angular arrangement?
Move the rug to line up with the fireplace.
Move and line up the 3 seater sofa to face the fireplace, place the coffee table in front.
Get one of the IKEA expedit bookshelves (2x4 config) to sit behind the longer sofa to serve as a console and bookshelf. Add a table lamp and your existing potted plant. This will present as a room separator.
Adjust the angle of the 2 seater so that it is in line with the repositioned carpet.

I think your wingback chairs (although oversized for the room) can then stay by the window as is because the repositioned sofas will help unclutter the space. Hope this helps.

A floor plan is useful in furniture arrangements.

Color preference would help as well. You current palette is so neutral that anything could go. What direction would you like to go?

A pair of these sofas in an "L" would continue the neutral seating theme. Put the corner of the "L" opposite the corner FP. Add color, texture and pattern with accessories, pillows, throws and drapes. Try layering a cowhide rug over the area rug you now have. Richen the space with a darker cocoa/chocolate color on the walls. You have options of flanking the FP with the wings, putting them at the knee wall. Might try a bench under the windows. Could you find a spot to tuck in a pretty accent chair?

How about just grouping 4 chairs around a coffee table. See my ideas page; vjs12 ideas. The first picture shows a blue seating arrangement for an example like I'm suggesting.
