Help with deciding what to do with antique couch
June 19, 2013 in Other
I have this couch that has been in family forever. Can't get rid of it. But, it needs to be recovered and made more family friendly. I have alot of antiques but would like this couch to look like you would want to sit on it. Does anyone have thoughts about calk painting the wooden parts of this couch. My husbands say's you NEVER paint a stain finish! I thinks its just to formal looking. I was thinking calk painting the legs and trim and then covering in a real neutral fabric, tans, etc. Something that would stay nuetral through the years and could change up with curtain pillows. Thoughts anyone?

You have a classic camelback sofa.
I would not paint the legs, but I have seen these slip covered with a tailored skirt at bottom to cover legs, takes some the formal look away.
If it's been in the family for years, they don't make them solid like that anymore, so worth reupholstering or slip covering.

Fabric choices depend on the room you'll use it in and other colors in your home.

Thanks, Yes that sofa has been in family 60+ years that I know of. It's been recovered many times. Hoping this one will be the last. I have thought about a skirt, but then thought its a shame not to show it off. THanks for the advice.
