Traditional home kitchen backsplash

It has been 4 years since we built our home and we still don't have a kitchen backsplash! I just can't decide = all I know is that I would like something with "classy wow"!! Pale yellow cabinets/crystal hardware and dark brown counter tops. The shine of glass is appealing but too modern for my traditional house - tumbled stone is nice but not so easy to clean - love the idea of embossed tin but don't know what color!! Looking for your ideas....please!

This kitchen is more country but I think a marble tile is both classy and wow.

Sorry about not having a picture earlier....here is a poor one taken at Christmas however, you can only see some of the area that has been painted - behind the range and along one long wall and around window.

Not sure if this is the right photo - I don't see your range or window?

Oops posts crossed. I am a little confused - are the cabinets now yellow? Or did I misunderstand your first post and it's the walls that are yellow?

Both are pale yellow right now....cabinets are called Antique Yellow (very, very pale and look white is some lights) and the walls are yellow - hope to cover over the backsplash area.

Seeing the photos, I still vote for marble. You have a beautiful elegant kitchen and I think that would be a good match. If you are looking for more of a wow, you could consider putting marble subway tile in a herringbone pattern.

Here's one as an accent or you could do all over.

These cabinets look to be more yellow than yours but I also like these ceramic subway tiles - they look to have that handmade/fired look. Check out fireclay if you like this look - beautiful tiles.

Please, comment on this: I always afraid of a marble backsplash. I don't know how this happens but sometimes I end up with some spaghetti sauce's splashes on the backsplash. I wonder if it would stain the marble.
