Okay for travertine floor in exercise room?

We are changing the floor in our exercise room and office. Considering hardwood and/or travertine. The rooms are connected and will be coming off a travertine floor. Which floor would be best for these rooms?

If you continue the travertine this will work well for a gym up type exercise room - but if this is more for yoga and dance then a wood look will be more forgiving on your joints !

It's fine to use travertine, but doesn't seem to be money well spent for the additional cost over hardwood.

I am a bit afraid of sweat going on the floor and making it slippery. Also there might be a danger to break the travertine if you carry heavy weights and are not being careful enough when you place them on the floor.

Thanks for the info. All great points. We do have gym flooring over the floor now in the area of weights, but the dance bar and yoga area are bare, so it is a little of both.
