Direction of bathroom tile in shower vs. wall
June 23, 2013 in Design Dilemma
I will be using the same 12x24 tile in the shower surround all the way up to the ceiling as what will be on the walls. The walls will only go half way up though. The tile has a linear pattern (picture attached) which comes with a bullnose from the manufacturer which we prefer to use (we don't like the look of the Schluter edges and nor like the idea of grinding to ease the edge of the full sized tile.

Initially we wanted to install these tiles with the pattern going horizontally but realized that when the bullnose piece is installed (vertically for the edge of the shower) the pattern will be going the other way. So, we're now thinking about installing all the tiles in the shower vertically but keeping the wall tile going horizontally.

Do you think that would look ok or just really odd and incongruent?

I don't think it will look odd at all. If anything it will add some interest

Thanks for your opinions! I was a bit concerned because this is a small bathroom - only 5x8 feet.
