I recently bought some what the seller referred to as "Japanese holly" I put it in planters and love it! May be a little small for what you have already? They grow 6-8ft, but are very slow growing. I attached a photo.

What zone do you live in and how much maintenance are you willing to do? Also, would you only be interested in green, or some of the deep burgundy foliage like you have? I am guessing you mean that you want leaves on plants all year and not have things die down during the winter like the hosta does?

I'd take the flower bed all the way to the walk, eliminate the two evergreens and continue with what you have. It looks good.
