Is a Shaw laminate floor a good choice for new construction on a beach
June 24, 2013 in Design Dilemma
We are in the process of building a new beach home on Fire Island, NY and I found a laminate floor sample by "Shaw" that has the rustic wide planked look I was hoping for. I bought a box of it and tried to damage it with a hammer and scratch it to simulate the wear from sandy feet. Although it looks great and seams like it will hold up I am nervous to do a whole house in this product (bathroom floors will be tile). The original cottage that was there had a 15 yr old Pergo floor and was in pretty good condition considering all the families that we rented to. Only caution is that we had some gouges from bed frame legs that did not have rubber caps to keep them from moving. I figured I would buy a few extra boxes in case I have to replace any damaged boards over the years. Any advise or suggestions? Cathy
