Tacky waterfall, bare walls behind stairs, stair design needs updating
June 26, 2013 in Design Dilemma
I have this odd space on top of my foyer and i initially converted it into a waterfall. However, I now hate all these fake plants which I find tacky and want to take them out. I also don't like the bare grayish boring wall behind the stairs and the wood veneers covering the foyer and stair area. I want to update the look along with the rest of the house. I am going for hollywood regency/art deco style similar to Kelly Wearstler (with antique brass/stone furnitures, modern unique art pieces and wall treatments). I was thinking of changing the glass waterfall into a large metallic sculpture (w/ or without water), cladding the back of the waterfall with mirror, putting in faux finishing/wallpaper on the large tall wall (as I cannot use stone or tiles because it is just made of gypsum board), replacing the stair railing with all glass or with combination of antique brass and covering up the veneers with raw silk wallpaper. I am not a designer but I used this 3D cad tool and came out with some rough ideas. Can you please give other suggestions/ideas or product recommendations especially for the back wall and waterfall? Thanks!
