Length of dining room table to go underneath 12 foot cove ceiling?

The dining room is 16 feet long. The recessed cove ceiling above is 12' long.
Wondering what would be the optimal size dining room table to go under the cove ceiling. I am considering changing the recessed cove to 14' because I would like to have a 10' table. Not sure if that works either.

You need 2' for the chair space and 2' behind for walk space so in a 16' room - with these allowances each end you have room for an 8' table .

Thank you OnePlan. This means a 12 foot cove ceiling above, would frame an 8 foot dining room table below with a 2 foot over hang. I appreciate your feedback - it is very helpful.
