Kitchen island seating.

I have a long island, and there's room for 4 chairs on one side, but there's more members in our family. i want to use it for our everyday use but does it make sense to make the island bigger to fit more chairs around the island? Is it tacky to have chairs all around an island in the kitchen?

As long as you have room to move around the island I don't think it looks tacky. There are a lot of hybrid island kitchen tables.

8 is a LOT of stools around an island.

Have you considered a farmhouse table (maybe with a bench on one side) instead?

How crowded it looks will depend on the size of your kitchen of course but I am seeing islands with lots of seating

Hello Pkns8
I think a wrap-around elevated serving area would work well for your situation. -Obviously depending on the distance to cabinets or wall on each side

I designed a kitchen for some clients recently with the same problem.
The solution was to wrap an 42” high and 24” deep serving top around the island itself. They loved it.

Here is a rendering of what it looked like. Please, don’t worry about the difference in material and wall colors. It’s all done to create contrast

Hope this helps

Best wishes

Olav

this is what I was thinking, but I didn't know if there were too many chairs and if it would look too tacky. Thanks so much. I'll go for this idea!
