Need help with window treatment for arched bedroom window
June 28, 2013 in Design Dilemma
Having a hard time trying to figure out what to do for window treatments on a large arched window in my bedroom. I want to do sheer white linen drapes (hung from right below the crown molding) with a woven wood shade with blackout lining beneath. But where to mount the shade? If it's an outside mount at the line of the drapery rod, it will cover part of the arched window. If it's inside mounted right beneath the arched window, will it cut the window in half and leave an akward dead space above? Any thoughts would be much appreciated!! Thanks!

Hunter Douglas or Graber both make arched window treatments. [houzz=

There's no point to a blackout shade that leaves part of the window exposed. And I agree covering part of the arch with the shade even when open will look awkward. So maybe a shade is not the best idea.

I would recommend a double curtain treatment: drapes with blackout lining in front for your light control, then thin white linen curtains behind for your filtered light scenario. It appears you have plenty of space to mount this on the wall without covering the top of the arch, and you can size the rod so the curtains will pull completely clear of the glass on both sides.

Or, same idea, but mount both treatments on ceiling.
