Houzz is the new way to design your home.

We are remodeling our kitchen, middle class house in Texas, $30K budget. We are getting new cabinets that will be painted white. The cabinet maker my general contractor recommends makes hardwood boxes out of China birch. Does this sound right? What is a decent grade wood to use for painted cabinets? The cabinets will be my biggest expense. I don't want to cheap out--we plan on being in this house for the next 15 years or so, but I have to keep the value of my home (about $200K) and budget in mind. I appreciate any input.
