If you decide to do pendants, I would suggest going small... :)

could i turn that old light into a recessed light so I wouldn't have to sheetrock and then run 2 small pendants?

Are you keeping your other lighting?
I like the reclaimed wood idea.

i would like something bigger in middle but not sure what. i am not the fancy chandelier type. I have a gas range so I can't have a ceiling fan. i also want to replace light near bar area

I could see some schoolhouse fixtures in your kitchen and maybe a drum over the dining table. (Sorry to go beyond the scope of the question - I love the kitchen but I think the lighting could be more fun).
Changing to recessed lighting (tell two flushmounts you have) might be a good idea and then coordinate some bar pedants with the other pendant you have at the window.

This is the look of the lighting I was thinking of - in pretty much any finish you like

That would be perfect. I have a lot of orange accents in my house and I am looking for some to go in glass cabinets also. I appreciate any input. It looks darker in pics than in real life.
