For instant "update" paint over the wall paper trims in both areas. Laundry room would be better one color, not pink and green probably (or either). I don't know if you can do anything practical with the exposed ducting and raw wood beam (paint the beam). You could benefit from more substantial shelving (yours appear to be bowing) or a closed cabinet over your folding area. In an area like this, safety followed by ergonomic use, would trump decor. What use features would you like to incorporate in the space? An ironing station? Sorting?
