Double bed against wall in smaller room

I have a smaller room around 16' by 9' and I wanted to make it into a second bedroom in a flat. Would it be okay to have a double bed against a wall and have only one bedside table? Or is it better to have its back against the long wall and only have 3' walking space at the end of it?

Up against the wall is fine. You could give it a daybed look.

If this space is set up for guests and two people are in the bed then it may be uncomfortable for them to have to climb over one another in the night, however if only one person will sleep there then your good to go. I would recommend that the design should incorporate the 3' of space at the end!!
