Bathroom update

I need to update bathroom to accommodate my wife's accessibility into the shower and to raise the toilet. I also need to have safety grab bars installed by toilet and shower to prevent slippage and for ease of entry exit.

Dear Poufbunny,

Try a 12" grab bar at the walk in to the shower and a horizontial bar in the actual shower to start. She will need to stabilize as she steps in and when she is standing in the shower.

By the toilet, you have a toilet bar that can be on a vertical tilt to straight depending on your wife's needs.
Please get a good ADA height toilet and if she needs more height try an extension seat. I like the Kohler Cimmaron or Toto Drake 2.

Moen has several grab bars in various sizes. Some have grips and not the smooth bar. Remember we ladies have smaller hands too!

You may want to go a step further and remove you old shower pan and put in a new curbless shower.

Hope everything works out well!

Make sure you have non-slip flooring; throw rugs in the bathroom are nice on the bare toes but dangerous culprits that cause many falls. If you want a rug use a rug with a non-slip gripping type of backing. Check with AARP for a complete list of things to do to make your bathroom and whole house more accommodating for accessibility needs.
