Need to rework an undersized laundry adjacent to master bath & closet

digdougJuly 24, 2013
In a block of space, we have the laundry, the master closet, the hall closet, and the master bath. It just seems like there is a better mouse trap to be had in this great Frank Betz Blakeford.

We also think there is something we need to do about the master shower, health-wise. Not caring for the tile the builder chose nor the fact the tiler built a wall not the intended bench doesn't hurt either.

It would take winning the Bathroom/Laundry Room sweepstakes to move walls.

In the meantime, I'm finding lots of great ideas on Houzz for more efficient use of the spaces we have...like the recessed dryer vent box to give a few extra inches, double swing doors into the laundry for convenience and space.

Digdoug--This is an idea addressing most of the issues, but not all. Make certain all code, fire safety and ventilation issues are addressed. Photos would be helpful in getting advice to deal with all your issues. The benefit of this is that you get a better closet for the Owner's Suite, and you don't sacrifice much, given that the Laundry room was not all that practical anyway. As it opens to a hall, in an area near a room of specific use, the Laundry being open to the hall should be a reasonable design compromise in lieu of what you get in return. Happy Houzzing.
