Extended, multi-purpose breakfast counter or an exclusive dining space

Hi,

This is the layout of my kitchen/home. I was thinking if I could actually have an extended breakfast counter that could also be used as dining space sometimes instead of having a small breakfast counter and an exclusive, dining space.

Considering we don't have many guests over, I could use the additional space to have a nice mini library/reading space or something. And the guests that come for dinner are generally close to the family. Why waste a dining space when you can have 'em dining at the counter that can be extended when the need be.

Do you have a solution for it?

Consider removing the peninsula and looks like there is enough space for a small island combined with eating for at least 2 people.

I was thinking of the same-- have an island with eating for two people. Do you think it'll be better to shift the island at the center of the kitchen. I was thinking it ain't probably a good idea considering the living space alignment is going to remain the same. Are there some kind of island designs where you can actually extend the eating space sometimes, like when you have guests over? Something that you can sort of fold and it won't show? But when you unfold it, you have eating space for say 4-6 people. Possible?

I'm the opposite, and have often given the dining room priority over the living room, and placed the dining table where it enjoys the best view, added concealed office equipment, and used it as "communications central."

But you can do the same thing here in reverse: swap the 2 spaces so the living room enjoys the best view, then use shelves and seating to turn your interior dining room into a multi-purpose dining/library/reception area.
