Where to start and stop paint colors

I would like to paint our kitchen and family room with different colors. The rooms are separated by 3 four-sided columns. My dilemma is what color to use on the columns.

Can you use the trim color on the columns.

It might be best to use the same color as it sounds like the rooms are opened to each other.

Here are some photos. Hope this helps. I am open to using one color if that makes more sense.

I would find a color you love an do it in both rooms! You could even do a darker of the same color on your columns.

If you select a deeper or lighter shade from the same card, you can certainly shift tones of the same color. In that case, you would paint the entire column the trim white.

The columns should be painted the same color as all of the other trim. Stop color walls at an outside or inside corner. Choose a palette of colors in various shades of one color or complementary colors.

You could do one color from on the wall where the kitchen table and chairs are through to the kitchen turn the corner and stop where the cabinets stop by what might be a pantry. Optionally, the wall in the kitchen eating area could be that color, too. I pick the blue from the pillows just to illustrate what I'm thinking.

Any color suggestions? I have white furniture and could easily change accents and accessories. Looking for something to warm up the space.

Hi g8rgirl, how do you feel about red tones (or maroon) to warm up the space ?

I agree with the same color throughout. Keep it simple and put your accents in pillows and throws.

You have too many small, fussy things on the walls. Opt for larger pictures and get rid of the curly-Q wire hangings. Looks like you have a fabulous large painting but all the little stuff takes away.
