Light or Dark? Interior trim help needed
August 1, 2013 in Design Dilemma
My study was the house's former owner's daughter's purple princess palace. It's ghastly and I plan to paint it cream. If I do that, the trim will be more or less the same color. I'm wondering, if I strip the trim, am I likely to find nice wood? Could I stain, paint the trim dark?

I have a window seat and the door opens to the hall, which is a rich red with white library shelving. Would dark trim in the room look bad transitioning to light out of the room? I leave the door open often.

Or maybe I should just have two shades of cream one for the walls and one for the trim. If so, can anyone recommend a pair of SW whites?

The colors didn't come out well. The pink above the purple stripes in picture 1 is a good view. The library through the door is red, not fuschia.

The window seat area is a lighter purple, one of the purples in the stripes in the first picture.

I think a cream colored wall with white trim will look elegant and clean. Trim is suppose to accentuate the paint color, not blend in! Here is a nice example of a beautiful cream and white working well together. Happy Decorating!

The walls are Benjamin Moor Malton (1073) (flat), the ceililng is Benjamin Moore White Dove (flat), and the trim is Benjamin Moore White Dove (semi-gloss).
